Can anyone share a good pattern? Every one I've tried always ends up curling into a skinny snake!!!

If its curling you're possibly crocheting too tightly. Have you tried using a bigger hook?

What Crochetbug said. If it curls you're working too tight, if it frills (unintentionally) you're working too loose. In either case you need to change hook size. Up to crochet looser, down to crochet tighter.

Blocking after you have finished also removes the curl. Blocking will also reveal the full pattern.
To ensure the right hook use the tension guide in the pattern.

Oh brilliant thanks everyone!! Will make sure I spend some time experimenting with hook size / tension before I crack on then.

I made a C2C scarf for my secret Santa gift last year. Came out perfectly, I was chuffed to bits with it - didn’t want to give it away!
