A piece of forest in a blanket

I got engaged last week in a forest, and I'm about to embark on a crochet temperature blanket starting from the day I got engaged through to the day I get married. I'd love the first row to incorporate something actually from the forest itself. I tried sewing in a pine needle twig but it just broke and fell to bits. I'd love to know if anybody has any other ideas, or am I chasing something impossible?!

You could make a dye with pine needles to dye some yarn.

If there’s oak moss which has fallen, it makes a reddish dye if I remember correctly. Not sure the process of making the dye would add to the romance though

Heather is pretty indestructible but rather prickly…
