any recommendations for type of box, what should go in?

we havE discounted a cantilever type box as it will get broken. But if there are any easier to. Organise ideas that would be great..

so far
good needles (I keep ending up with ones with tiny eyes)
needle threader
embroidery scissors torn between gold stork or unicorn
reels of cotton in black & white & perhaps one of the multicoloured thread braids.
pin cushion
I got ttailors chalk, not sure if that’s. Worth it.
embroidery hoops have been specicifically requested I might also get a kit & some more binca and embroidery floss

anyy thoughts welcome apologies for typing. iPad playing sillybuggers

I would recommend getting them to make a pin cushion rather than buying one. Easily done with felt and I still have the wonky hedgehog I made as a child!

WRT tailor's chalk, I like it but you can also buy pens/pencils that do the same thing and wash out. They might be easier for a 7 year old.

Box wise, I would suggest something like this one from Hobbycraft. Minimal organisational areas which are never right for what you want and I always used to (still do!) shove everything in when "tidying away" anyway.

My mum made me a little fabric book to keep needles in in my first sewing box. I still use it over 40 years later.
A decent tape measure.

I still have that first sewing box that I unwrapped at Christmas in 1975!
It now holds my embroidery silks.

Mine was a simple box design with hinged lid.

The things I used in it were

Scissors
Pins
'Felt' sheets
Embroidery threads
Unpicker
Tape measure
Selection of needles including tapestry needles
A needle threader (simple wire one)
Some pieces of tapestry canvas to fit into a medium frame.
I also got a book of simple patterns so I could make purses and toys with the felt.

I loved this gift so much.

Some great ideas! I still have my first sewing box beautifully made from a cigar box. It had tiny pockets and elasticated loops to hold cotton reels. There was a peg doll lady whose apron lifted & was the needle book (still have her and the stork embroidery scissors with a lavender bag tied on with velvet ribbon)
sadly I don’t have the skills.

we already have a hedgehog pincushion given a while ago.
they have a sale on boxes in John Lewis.
