The bit that I have highlighted in the band - what does it mean?

That you need that manu grams of wool to make something that size?

Is it UK and European sidings. And that’s how much you need to make that size.

Ah! So it would take 12 balls to make a simple, fitted jumper in size 14 (which is 40 in European), if you knit at the stated tension. Sensible.
