Anyone around who does calligraphy?

I've been learning to do pointed nib calligraphy, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I even sent some Christmas cards to my poor family 😄.

Does anyone else here do calligraphy?

I am trying to teach myself but I think I'd benefit from
Professional lessons! I've got most of the pens! I'm sure you're friends and family loved the cards you sent - I would! 😊

I did evening classes for about 7 years many years ago. Back before children I think!

How are you getting on now @Emus, and do you still practice sometimes @SoupDragon?

I learned by buying a video course last summer. It was actually really good I think. I struggle with trying to make everything perfect, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I got some lovely metallic inks, which worked really nicely for the Christmas cards that I made. I've only got one more to do for my DS.

I don't practise, no. I know I can still do it when I need to though (not quite to the same standard!) Muscle memory must play a big part I think.

I don't think it needs to be perfect - perfection is what you get if you print it from a computer. The small differences are what makes calligraphy different to print I think. Embrace the small errors and the variety that makes it human 🙂

Yes 😄, that's a good way to think about it.

Actually, I re-read your post - 7 years of lessons is a lot, you must be advanced @SoupDragon!

It was a long, long time ago - my eldest is 23 now!

I tried brush lettering recently and I was so annoyed with how bad I was at it! I assumed I'd grasp it immediately 😂😂

I went to a class years ago, doing very formal calligraphy (although we never got as far as gilding etc). I haven’t attempted the newer style of informal calligraphy, although I’ve got a book on it somewhere gathering dust!

Apologies for resurrecting a very dead thread. Do you remember the video course you bought? Am looking to learn calligraphy
