1/4 filled a plastic bottle (coke etc) with rice and taped the lipd on for a shaker

put elastic bands around a shoe box

Biscuit tins upside down are drums. As are saucepans, footstools, cardboard boxes, any plastic tub you can find. Wooden spoons for drumsticks.

Making ooohs, aaarrgghs and farty noises ( with your mouth...) down toilet roll or kitchen roll tube.

Actually, ds made a great clarinet/saxaphone type thing at a museum activity some time ago. You need a tube, a plastic cup, a balloon and a straw. Cut the bottom off the plastic cup and tape it to the top of the tube. Cut a piece of balloon out and stretch it across the top of the cup. Cut a hole in the side of the cup and stick a piece of straw through it. Hey presto!
