Help - so annoyed with myself!

I've spent hours crocheting a blanket and have finally reached the final row. All that is needed is to sew in the end and crochet a border. But, I've just noticed that the first row is quite tight and it means it is narrower than the top (about 4 inches!!!). I just don't know how I didn't notice this before....... Ideally it needs frogging and redoing... I just can't face this now. I feel like putting it in a bag with the remaining wool and coming back to it in the future. A big lesson learnt.....

Oh no.... OK. It is possible to undo the first rows and redo. I can grab you a video link

How much of a difference is there? Might a border help if you use a slightly bigger hook on the foundation stitch row?

Myshitisreal · 15/11/2022 03:35

Ahhhh 4 inches. Let me get you the video to at least look At.

I've never done it.

I try to fold my blanket regularly to check the size is in line. You can go up a hook Size or two for your first row.

What did you decide??

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 18/11/2022 05:33

@Myshitisreal

I have decided to chalk this up to experience and start again. I know myself and it would niggle me, so when I have a free day and especially when it is a wet, rainy day I will frog it. It will be (yet another!!!) knitting lesson for me!

What does 'frog' mean? Never heard it used like this.

Myshitisreal · 18/11/2022 07:15

Frog like ripppiiiiit. Ie undo/rip it out

Sometimes you have to do these things and it sounds like it's for the best. Good luck with it. Stitch markers, counting, sunset check e by folding in 4 every few rows. All good. 👌

Oh, that is sad. I did the same thing on my first large crochet blanket and I undid a bit and, I confess, fudged a bit. I knew I would be the only one to notice. Crochet is so much more forgiving than knitting for mistakes, I am finding, but I’m not sure I would have the courage to undo from the foundation row!

FlipFlops4Me · 25/11/2022 15:08

Likewise. I'm coming up to the home stretch of a crochet blanket and have six inches on one side that make a sort of hollow. I've got it back to where it should be and it's not that much. I'm hoping that a frilly type border and careful blocking might get it to look a lot less than it is.

It's entirely my own fault for forgetting to count stitches and not having stitch markers in place! I mean, it's an invitation to screw up! Still, now carefully stitch marking and things will hopefully go well to the end.
