Anyone out there on embroidery machines?

So I bought a Brother sewing and embroidery machine a couple of years ago, did a few logos and bits and then my mum ended up using it for quilting a lot.

The past few weeks I've regained my love for it and when telling my peers they seem to raise an eyebrow and say it's a bit of an "odd" hobby because people in their 30's should be going out drinking or looking after a child.

At 33 years old, am I young for fabric crafts?

I've not realised this forum has a bit for crafters so I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and designs.

I am slightly younger than you and have been sewing for 10+yr. Useful skills to have. You are definitely not too young.
The sew magazine is great. I usually do more hand sewing and embroidery, mainly altering clothes to make them fit better and embroid on existing garments to cover stains.
The Reddit forum is quite active. However I do wish to meet some like-minded people on sewing regardless of age.

@UnicornRidge well thank you for the reply. It is kinda showing me that we're in that younger category!
I got excited today that my new embroidery hoop arrived, sent it to my friends on snap chat and no one knew what it was 😂

I'm only a few years older and just got my first embroidery machine (to keep my other 3 machines company...)

My christmas wish list has a huge new hoop on it!

Are you on a brother machine?

No, a Pfaff - the creative 4.5. My old one is a brother, as is my overlocker though!

@StatisticallyChallenged
Are you going for a dime snap hoop? I went to a "stitch and bitxh" ladies morning. Albeit they were all old enough to be my grandmothers, super knowledgeable. They all used dime hoops, I liked using them but I have a brother so bought the brother magnetic hoop.

Ooh I'll have a look. I'm eyeing up the grand dream hoop, which is 360mm x 350mm so pretty massive.

@StatisticallyChallenged honestly check some videos out of the dime hoops. They're an absolute game changer. It's just wasting stabiliser I have a complete hatred for 😂

It looks like they don't go as big as the one I'm looking at. I do have a magnetic one (not the full frame, add on magnets) which is great so would definitely look at those for smaller sizes.

People need to get a grip. I'm older than you now but the only time in my life when I've not done loads of textile crafts (my allegiances change between needlepoint, knitting, quilting, sewing, machine embroidery) has been when I was a student and I really, really didn't have much time.

But even then I used to do cross stitch or beaded Christmas cards etc.

Don't let them put you off. I've never know the knitting crowd to be so young. I'm quite often the ancient one in my local yarn shop (and mid forties).

I have an embroidery machine (Bernina) but haven't used it much. I'm off to google dime hoops.
