Simple but lovely knitwear patterns

I've just recently got back into knitting, which I've not done since childhood/teenage (now mid 30s) and my first project was the Little Big Cosy jumper from Etsy seller Rainbow Folk, which I've made for my 2.5yo DD. I'm really pleased with it, and it was simpler than I thought with super chunky and big needles, so I'm now making it in another colour for my 5yo DS.

I've got the bug now though and am already wondering what to make next! Can anyone recommend any lovely and simple but stylish knitting patterns which I could look at for future projects?

I'm keen to try a chunky scarf for myself, maybe woolly hats for me, DH and the kids, and perhaps a jumper for me? Maybe some little things like wrist warmers for Christmas gifts?

My favourite shops to buy knitwear from are Whistles, hush, Cos, and I would buy from Toast if I had the money, so anything in that kind of style would be amazing. Thank you! And happy knitting - it's so lovely and meditative Smile

Join Ravelry lots of lovely patterns on there.

JennieTheZebra · 07/10/2022 15:23

I second joining Ravelry. It’s a bit difficult to recommend patterns without knowing how confident you are, iyswim. Are you happy knitting in the round? If not, that’s the next skill to master. It makes so many things (hats, jumpers etc) so much easier and opens up the world of socks!

I knitted this last year

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll look up Ravelry. I'm at a pretty basic level at the moment. Can cast on and off, knit, purl, increase/decrease. That's about it. Keen to learn but equally probably best sticking to basic patterns for now and build up gradually. Does knitting in the round need those circular needles? Sounds like I need to add some to my shopping list...

Wow @Soontobe60 that's gorgeous! How long did it take you?

In addition to Ravelry, if you have the Libby app via the library you can access Simply Knitting and The Knitter magazines for free, they often grade patterns by difficulty and give photo instructions for stitches.

That is gorgeous @Soontobe60 - my daughter would love that. Did you knit from a pattern?

Deebeelou1 · 21/10/2022 23:32

Drops Design has lots of free patterns of all types of levels and styles

DeborahVance · 24/10/2022 10:14

I love that @Soontobe60 have you got a link to the pattern (please save me from 3 hours on Ravelry trying to find it!)

DeborahVance · 24/10/2022 10:26

OP have you got Ravelry? I don't know if I can link from there, but in my favourites at the moment are patterns called 'Veer' and 'Strange Brew'.

It's worth looking at the fancier yarn shops like Loop in Islington, they often have stylish Toast like patterns

SageRosemary · 24/10/2022 10:27

My DD is the knitter in the family. I've bought her a couple of kits from The Wool Couture Company, lovely quality, she made me a gorgeous scarf. (Toast worthy!) Not cheap!

At the other end of the scale, Aldi have a crafting section inshore from this Thursday, 27th October, there are sets to make a pompom hat or a scarf, not sure of the yarn content, it doesn't say on the brochure. Separately there are 8 x 50g ball packs in acrylic/wool mix.

@OllyBJolly @DeborahVance @MunsteadWood
sorry for the delay - I downloaded the pattern, I dont think it was Ravelry! Ill have a look and get back to you. It was easy to knit on a circulars needle using mohair.

Soontobe60 · 24/10/2022 19:26

It IS on Ravelry! Its the Made My Day cardigan by Lily May France. Hers the colours I used.
I have the pattern as a download. - of course you should buy your own copy… 😜 If you DM me I can send you the full details?

Thanks @Soontobe60 ! I've bought the pattern and added it to my project list.

DeborahVance · 25/10/2022 09:05

@Soontobe60 thank you!! Which yarn did you use? I've been googling away to find a reasonably priced chunky mohair.

AnnaMagnani · 25/10/2022 09:12

Rowan, especially the Mode books are full of simple but stylish patterns.

Aestas · 25/10/2022 09:28

@MunsteadWood I've just order some lovely super chunky rainbow wool and the Adventure pattern- thank you for sharing! Have you got a picture of your finished jumper?

Sorry, I cant find the left over yarn! I got it from a local wool shop, it was in the sale.

DeborahVance · 26/10/2022 11:51
