paint and stencils for my baby's room

hi,

we have this wood board covering the window of our daughter's room, she is 6 months old. i was thinking that would be nice to paint it but im not sure what kind of paint would be suitable for her room, like 'baby friendly fumes'?

also, while im no painter/drawer, i can be very meticulous following directions. maybe stencils are the solution for me?

does anyone have a tip for a good supplier for these materials?

im opened for suggestions

Acrylic paints are best as the fumes are virtually non-existant, you can mix them to the right colours, and you can water them down with - er, water to make them more translucent.

Stencils are great for covering an area. I would paint the board a background colour first though. you might find it difficult to get stencils of cartoon characters (if that's what you are after) - it's more teddy bears/balloons etc you would get. If you have a local Hobbycraft-type shop then that would be a good place to look.

Could you get an arty friend to draw pictures on for you to "colour in" as it were?

I got some lovely stuff from the Stencil Warehouse. www.stencilwarehouse.com/index.htm. I'm fairly good at DIY, but not arty, and these worked well for me. dd has flowers all over her walls, whilst ds has an interesting Star Wars battle he did himself. I got the paints and brushes from there too, and they delivered it all very fast.

These are lovely, I think

you are all so nice, thank you so much!

i think i will paint the background blue and make it 'under the sea' panel.

miaou - no friends around with talent for arts!

nooka - i think its much more fun if they can do it themselves! cant wait until she is big enough.

the links are really useful, checking them out now.
