Crochet hook for arthritic hand

MIL is a keen needlewoman, but her right index finger is badly distorted by arthritis. She's looking for a crochet hook with an ergonomic handle that might be easier to grip, but does not have the option to browse and try in wool shops.

Any recommendations? She's willing to buy a few different types to try, but is overwhelmed by the variety.

MIL holds the hook from underneath (a bit like a pen?).

How about these ? I’m only a beginner but it feel much more comfortable than an olf fashionned metal hook www.toftuk.com/PD.aspx?product=Haberdashery/all_tools/-Soft_Grip_Crochet_Hook

I would suggest Pony hooks for a pen hold, rather than any of the curved shape handles. Hobbycraft and a lot of yarn shops sell them.

I have each of these kind of hooks and find them all comfortable to use. My favourites are the clover amour hooks which have a soft handle.

hope you find something that works for your mum x

www.amazon.co.uk/Boye-3421001001-Ergonomic-Aluminium-Crochet/dp/B004ALF72G I use these after I wrecked my thumb overdoing it crocheting - you just put a normal thin hook into the handle. The handles don't last forever - eventually the bottom will go on them, but they're pretty durable.

MIL and I looked at that one. It looks like a good choice for a holds-like-knife crocheter, but would it work for a holds-like-pen crocheter?

I used to get pain in my thumb and wrist from crocheting until i got a furls hook. They are pricey but so worth it. I prefer the odyssey but the wooden and resin ones are nice too and a bit more affordable.
