Starting with resin

I've wanted to have a go with resin pouring for a while - setting flowers in paperweights and that kind of thing, rather than little jewellery bits. I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the kits available. Can anyone give me a pointer as to what i need it or any good kits please?

You need silicone moulds and a good resin. Gedeo crystal resin is good for beginners.

You need to avoid creating beautiful bubbles when you mix the resin. It needs stirring well but carefully.

You need to heat your resin until it flows like water rather than the slightly gloopy pour you get when it's cold. That helps bring bubbles to the surface as well.

Don't overheat the resin. I did that once and oh my god! 🤣

Your flowers will float to the top if you try to fill your mould all at once so you will need to stick them in place. I do that by pouring a little resin in and waiting until it is firm but not set then putting the flowers in and when it's fully set, fill the mould.

You can do it in layers but the lines can be visible.

Resin pieces can yellow with age. You need to take care of them properly to try to minimise this.

My autocorrect is nuts.

Beautiful should have been air.
How the hell do you even get beautiful from air anyway?

Oh those are good tips! I bought a beginner's resin kit from Hobbycraft when it was half price. It's probably cheap and cheerful but as a total novice I just wanted to something to play around with to start. I haven't really had much chance with 3 small kids but hoping to get an opportunity to have a proper go at some point!
