I just finished this giant tarantula. It was really fun and took aggggges. I'm looking for another interesting and different project to keep me occupied. Anyone made anything good lately? I'm not a very experienced crocheter, I only started learning at the end of last year, so something advanced beginner / intermediate skill level.

Are you a member of Ravelry? You could lose yourself for hours there!

i have a book of crocheted sea creatures which has an amazing octopus in it. It's been on my To Do list for ages.

OMG. I hate spiders, but that is amazing - can't believe you're a beginner! I'm mostly a knitter, but feel free come and join in on the Knit, Crochet and Natter threads - there are some crochet wizards on there who would have some good suggestions for you!

That's great, I have so many African flower animal projects that I have favourited but have never got round to starting one.

Are you looking for amigurumi suggestions or something else?

sleepymum50 · 15/07/2022 12:13

Go on Pinterest. It’s totally amazing for things like that.

well done, doesn’t look like a beginners work to me.

Im making this! It’s great fun. I just bought the pattern and a music box as I have loads of yarn but the kits are fab too.

Ami is my passion so probably that.

I love that pattern Pruella. 😍

All her stuff is fantastic! There is a book of patterns for insects that I’ve made basically all of!

Pruella · 15/07/2022 12:34

Could you please share the source for the tarantula pattern?

Oysterbabe · 15/07/2022 12:44

Great thanks, I'll have a look.

This is the pattern

Thank you! I’ll definitely get that spider, love it

tizwozliz · 15/07/2022 14:21

I like the pica pau patterns (there are a couple of books). a bit more complex than some others but nothing that should be a problem for you based on completing that spider. The first two are pica pau patterns. I've also got a dinosaur book which has some nice patterns like this pterodactyl

Wow, I love the sloth 😍😍

I've just bought the Beetles, Bugs and Butterflies book by Lalylala. The patterns actually look a little trickier than I was expecting but will give them a try.

Beetle, Bugs & Butterflies is a great book! I’d add any of the Kerry Lord Edward’s Menagerie books for ideas.

Ravelry is on my banned reading list as it’s all too tempting 😂

Your tarantula is epic!

tizwozliz · 17/07/2022 12:01

I've also treated myself to the Beetle, bugs and butterflies book this weekend. Hoping it might help me get my crojo back.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Kerry Lord books. It annoys me greatly that the patterns aren't just written out and you have to skip back and forth to find the bits you need.

CoffeeWithCheese · 17/07/2022 12:10

The tarantula is amazing - I used to make so many african flower animals to sell before my hands gave up the ghost.

Have you done Smaug the dragon from Heidi Bears - he was the full length of my sofa when I made him.

Oysterbabe · 17/07/2022 13:03

I donated my spider to the school to use as a prize in the summer fair. I expected them to chuck it in the toy tombola but they actually made it first prize in the raffle. I'm honestly so proud 😂🤣

That dragon, wow. 😳🤯

Fairislefandango · 17/07/2022 13:09

I'm not surprised they made it first prize - it's a stunning piece of work!

Pruella · 17/07/2022 15:17

I’m not surprised either! It’s so cool.

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/07/2022 15:33

The spider is fabulous. I want to do a toucan next. I've just done some of the dolls from Encanto.
