Please could you advise me as to whether this is a suitable project for a beginner crocheter? Also, could you recommend YouTube video which would demonstrate the stitches?

I had a look at it there and I think it would be suitable for a beginner.

Any videos by Bella coco I always find really good.

Start with some scrap yarn and see if you can get the hang of it before buying all the yarn for the blanket.

I'm pretty sure she explains both.

It's a very simple pattern and easy to memorise after the first few rounds. As long as you have good tension on the spike stitches you'll be fine.

Lovely pattern OP - quite tempted by the Wool Warehouse pack that includes pattern/wool for £31.50 ......

Already have a project on the go though - must finish first!
