Hi, I am designing a product for my A-Level Product Design project that can be used as an alternative form of entertainment for young children, aside from the common use of devices, in the form of a board game. I might be too late, as it just said no longer accepting responses, but anyway:

Wood or Plastic? A lot of board games are cardboard.

It reads as if you have never come across travel versions of games, which are magnetic. We have travel chess, draughts and backgammon.

Magnetic is the obvious thing for in a car as it stops pieces moving about due to jolting.
You also need to think about how the bits are stored so they don't get lost in a car, and how any game with dice would work so the dice don't go on the floor.
