Knitting help - lost my precious baby blanket

My husband has lost a very precious blanket that my baby had when he was born and I'm totally gutted about it. I'm thinking of paying someone to knit another one for me but can't find a similar pattern. Can anyone think of a similar pattern to the one in the photo? Also looking for suggestions for wool to use, it was quite dense and not super soft. Thank you

try googling on Ravelry. You have to join but it’s free. I would describe as basket weave pattern and it’s probably double knit or Aran weight.

I’ve had a closer look at your photo and I think it is crochet not knitted so on ravelry filter by - crochet, baby blanket, DK and Aran

Littlebirdyouaresosweet · 27/06/2022 22:22

Can you say when /how /where it was lost op?

Wheelibinsoutinthemorning · 27/06/2022 22:24

I think it’s a crochet blanket using diagonal basket weave stitch. Here’s a pattern for the centre.

My search came up with an image of a blanket with the same centre and edging stitch but I can’t manage to link it. I’ll keep trying.

Was the blanket machine washable?

Knittingnanny2 · 27/06/2022 22:25

Yes there are some on ravelry just like the lost one

Knittingnanny2 · 27/06/2022 22:26

I couldn’t link from ravelry either

Knittingnanny2 · 27/06/2022 22:27

It’s def crochet

And the good news is, it’s an easy pattern for a crocheter

Wheelibinsoutinthemorning · 27/06/2022 22:29

Here’s the Ravelry link.

Trying again.

I can’t find a blanket with exactly the edging in the picture, but it’s a fairly basic stitch. A crocheter who could do the centre (not me) could also do the edging just by looking at the picture. I think. Well, I could and I’m not a good crocheter.

It’s possible to commission knitting, and probably also crochet, from Rosie in Stitches. Proceeds go to the Rosie Maternity Hospital and prices are reasonable, considering the time it takes. Send me a message if you’d like to be put in touch with the person who organises it.

Here’s the link to the pattern in the picture @Knittingnanny2 posted at 22:27.

I taught myself to crochet @Tadaaaaaaaaa it may be that you can learn too and remake it.

Knittingnanny2 · 27/06/2022 22:50

@Wheelibinsoutinthemorning thanks!

Tadaaaaaaaaa · 27/06/2022 23:59

Oh thank you all so much!!

Thank you @Knittingnanny2 and @Wheelibinsoutinthemorning for finding/posting the pattern. The original blanket was quite small, maybe only about 60 or 70cm square. I can't see the measurements on the pattern but do you think it would be easy to make to a similar size if needed (as it seems to be made up of squares)? Although I'm crafty I've never crocheted and have only ever badly knitted so am thinking of asking someone else to do it, so thanks @Wheelibinsoutinthemorning I will send you a message about Rosie in Stitches.

The original was bought in a charity shop by my mil, it was handmade, no label or anything. I don't think it was washable and felt heavier than acrylic but I'm not an expert, just comparing to other blankets I have that feel much lighter. It did feel a bit like an arran jumper actually.

@Littlebirdyouaresosweet it was lost at Glastonbury - I have no idea how. it was in the car before my husband packed everything and now it's not there/wasn't there when we arrived. I was upset earlier and a bit grumpy, it's not my husband's fault, it was a busy time and we had a lot to think about but I should not have taken precious things with us! I didn't realise how sad I'd feel without it!

I really appreciate all your help and research, thank you!

I think it's knitted. It doesn't look too difficult. You just alternate knit and pearl stitches. It's called basket weave.

Yarnasaurus · 28/06/2022 00:21

If you don't have anyone to make it for you I'm happy to (been here for years but regular namechanger).

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 28/06/2022 08:30

Gosh, that's really nice of you yarn

It wouldn't take long, I usually make little blankets for cat rescue in between larger projects so would happily do it for a donation to a rescue.

Tadaaaaaaaaa · 28/06/2022 22:59

@Yarnasaurus thank you, that's very kind of you, I am very interested and will send you a pm

Definitely looks crocheted. I was going to offer to make one, but someone beat me to it.
