Has anyone done an online workshop with hobbycraft?

I’m considering doing a couple; candle making and sewing.

I’m curious to know what your experience was like? I’ve seen various online courses a different price ranges. So looking for something worth the money.

Thanks

Or can you share which online workshops you’ve done and found interesting.

Bumping this thread as I am interested in hobbycraft classes

paddingtonstares · 01/05/2022 19:54

Just suggested these to DH, he is disabled and rather isolated at home when I am out at work. Thank you, we didn't know about this. 😁

Oh this sounds good. I have a few crafty hobbies but my main hobby is just trying a range of different crafty and creative things, iyswim. Going to check this out. If I do one, I'll report back.

bump

Coffeegirl75 · 05/06/2022 23:04

Just checking in, not signed up for any online courses as yet, but have seen a few I’m interested in.
Has anyone else found something of interest? How did it go?

I did the embroidery course a couple of weeks ago with a friend. It was great! The instructor was good and the camera angles clearly showed what she was doing. It was just myself, my friend and one other person. Would definitely recommend.

Coffeegirl75 · 06/06/2022 11:17

Thanks @Orangesandlemons82 that’s great to hear! I’m looking forward to doing a couple online courses.

I'm doing the knitting one on Wednesday although my kit hasn't arrived yet

pensionconfusion · 06/06/2022 20:54

Silver clay one is coming up in June. It's free but you have to buy the tools and materials.
Tutor is very good and there is also a support group on Facebook where you can ask questions and post photos of your project.

@sandwiches77 has your kit arrived now? Let us know how you get on. Enjoy! 😊
Thank you @pensionconfusion that is something I am interested in, will take a look.

Yes kit arrived yesterday evening! Will report back later

sandwiches77 · 08/06/2022 16:33

The workshop was really good, ended up with it being just me which was even better as 1:1 - instructor went at a good pace and kept checking that I was OK and whether I needed her to go any slower/quicker. She was happy to repeat anything that I wasn't sure about. Only negative was they sent two balls of wool was sent in the kit but we only used one in the workshop but obviously I can use the second ball in the future. I will book in for another one in the winter months

TellMeItsNotTrue · 08/06/2022 20:17

I've done a cake decorating one through hobbycraft

I thought the class was great, really enjoyed it and would do it again. It was one with the stuff sent out to you

The only thing I would say wasn't great was that it was a class for beginners and they didn't say that you would need water, cornflour or icing sugar etc. Being beginners, a lot of people hadn't thought of that and it meant people getting up and down going to fetch things or trying to work around it, by which time things had moved on and they were trying to play catchup

I saw a lot of reviews mention it after the class. That was purely down to hobbycraft not the instructor, and they could have easily just added a note saying to have X, Y & Z to hand

Purringcat3 · 08/06/2022 20:40

Whaaaaat! This sounds great!

Doofas · 10/06/2022 08:15

I've done basic macrame one and a decorating bunsc as flowers one. Both very good. Calm patient instructor who took it at the place of the slowest but not in s way that those who picked it up s bit quicker felt they couldn't ask questions or carry on. Everything you need Congress in a box, with more than you need for that workshop and you get to keep what is left. So I now have icing nozzles and bags and good quality food colouring and macrame yarn soi can complete some more projects by myself. Would highly recommend. I want sure how I'd feel about doing it in s screen, turned out I write liked it as no one else could see what I was doing unless I showed them soi didn't worry too much about mistakes!

sandwiches77 · 10/06/2022 12:14

I thought it was good value, in the kit I had knitting needles and two balls of wool. I only used a small amount during the workshop so have lots leftover

StellaAndCrow · 10/06/2022 13:10

Was the knitting course a beginner's one? I'd like to learn to knit or crochet, got a book out of the library but couldn't understand how to start!

sandwiches77 · 10/06/2022 20:39

StellaAndCrow yes a beginners course, the instructor went at my pace (slow!). She was happy to repeat anything that I couldn't get the hang of, but I was lucky as ended up being a 1:1

StellaAndCrow · 12/06/2022 13:55

Thanks very much sandwiches - I'll have a look at that. I'm not good with diagrams, and the things about winding wool round my fingers had me very confused. I hadn't realised these sessions were "live" - that's great to know. Thank you! :)

OldTinHat · 12/06/2022 14:23

I keep looking at doing one of these but have been a bit 🤔

You've inspired me now, thanks. I was worried there would be about 500 people in the class and I'd never keep up!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 13/06/2022 19:34

It says how many spaces there are, so you know the maximum amount of people who will be doing it with you 😊

Mumtothreeandadog · 14/06/2022 14:09

StellaAndCrow name change, I was sandwiches

No diagrams, class on zoom, instructor talks to live and moves camera to over the top of her hands so you have a birds eye view
