I made some trousers!

I am writing here, as I know you will appreciate this...I finally made an item of clothing. The last dress I successfully made (not fancy dress) was in 1995.

I have a huge stash of beautiful fabric. I buy it, put it in a draw, get it out every now and again and stroke it then put it all back. I've bought patterns many times and chickened out (or run out of time).

In the last 10 years I have made patchwork, bags, wall hangings, many fancy dress items, toy storage systems but no clothes!

I am so happy and am going to embark on another Smile just had to share!

So are we going to get a photo? Grin

I'm gearing myself up to make a pair of trousers today. Green twill ones, possibly with a teeny tiny amount of pink topstitching.

(and well done)

DustyOwl · 09/04/2022 22:05

I will now attempt a photo...I am nowhere near as good at technology.

I'm hoping this posts a picture. They have pockets too (I love a pocket).

TabithaTittlemouse · 09/04/2022 22:11

Beautiful!

Musicandcheese · 09/04/2022 22:11

Hey, well done you! Those look great!

KatyMac · 09/04/2022 22:14

I really like them - what pattern did you use?

I am also liking the sound of green twill with pink stitching @pastabest

Trousers are not my friend!

Haggisfish3 · 09/04/2022 22:34

Brilliant!! Well done!

carefullycourageous · 10/04/2022 05:27

This is really inspiring, they look great. Well done!

Thank you! I have been showing the photo to everyone, I'm not convinced the Dads on the sideline at rugby were too interested but they were very polite.

Here's the link, they were supposed to have a split leg but I wanted them sewn up but I might do another pair 🤔

They are great. I bought some material last week with the intention of making some trousers, so far I have just stroked it Grin

WingingItSince1973 · 10/04/2022 22:35

Oh they are fab 😍 I'm a collector of fabrics too 🤣 I haven't been brave enough to make myself clothes yet. I have plenty of patterns too. I make most things. Bags, soft furnishings etc but for some reason clothing scares me ha ha xxx

Top tip - post your makes on instagram with appropriate hashtags and get your appreciation that way from your fellow sewists.

The muggles don't care about our sewing mastery until they want a hem taking up.

KatyMac · 11/04/2022 07:08

If you do go on Instagram look at the profile "canyonsthisforme" it'll prepare you on the best way to say no (now everyone knows you can sew) and not to look too shocked at the bizarre and adventurous requests you will now get

Wedding gown for £45? Make these trousers 5 inches longer? I'm a size 10 but this dress is a size 20.....can you just take it in a bit?

DustyOwl · 12/04/2022 08:04

😂 That is so true, I've already had my SIL ask if I could take some trousers up!
I showed them to my MIL, she was very polite but said "it would have been so much easier and cheaper to buy some real ones." I have known her for years, I'm not offended, I just laughed.
Thank you for all the lovely comments, I've calmed down on showing everyone, the plumber got away with not having to gaze at my achievement! 😂
Off to cut out the kimono.
