Adding tassles to a scarf - how?!

Is it just a matter of tying lengths of wool on once the scarf is knitted or is there a "proper" method?

DS asked today if he could have tassles on his scarf! It is chunky by the way - a lovely royal blue... only 3 inches long at the mo!

Bit difficult to explain but I hook mine over the cast on and cast off edge with a crochet hook iyswim. Just slip stitch it over on itself.

Make tassle into loop, with ends equal length.

Place loop of tassle just above where you want it to go.

Using crochet hook, pull part of loop part through knitting.

Bring ends round bottom of scarf, and poke them through loop.

Pull to tighten and VOILA...tassles
