I really like this, but can’t work out how the squares are put together around the front.

Is it shaped in the neckline?

I don't think it is shaped. I think it's just the way it has slipped down the model's shoulders.

The perspective is out but maybe something like this... the dotted line showing the centre of the sleeve squares would run where the crease in an ironed shirt would.

Then it has a frilly edge added.

But if you look at the back view it’s not a square at the back neck, it’s like rows of crochet, and it looks like the front is almost sweetheart shaped.

The back has a half square with the rows of crochet on the top edge being a collar.
