King cole truffle yarn ...

Has anyone used the King cole truffle yarn? It's absolutely beautiful and soon soft but soo hard to use! I have a lovely Teddy bear pattern but for the life of me I can't count my stitches or even see them with this wool! Does anyone have any tips please? I'd be very grateful! Thanks 😊

If it’s anything like the fluffy Snowflake yarn I’ve used, possibly King Cole or Stylecraft, you have my sympathy. First tried to use it for a mini polar bear - an insert for a big Advent Calendar. 3 mm needles - I couldn’t see the sts at all, ended up making it in plain white.

I’ve used the chunky version with much fatter needles successfully though - Santa hats for Gdcs.

I'm glad to know this. I was about to buy some to make a big oh-so-cuddly teddy but I might re-think unless someone comes up with something inspirational!

I've persevered but have to keep unpicking! It's a bloody nightmare... lovely wool, I just can't see my stitches 😭.

I brought about 10 balls too 🤣🤣. My confidence was short lived!

On fluffy yarn I always use a contrasting needle colour. Like a light birch needle on dark wool or knit pro symphonies on light wool. It makes it easier to see the stitches. Or try to place markers every 10 stitches or so. Hope that helps. That truffle wool looks lovely tho and now I want some.

Can you knit a thin, plain yarn alongside it? I've seen this as a suggestion for fluffy yarns before - you can see the stitches while you're working and the plain yarn is hidden in the fluff afterwards.

They are really good ideas - I will try them later! Thank you!

@LilithTheKitty thank you so much for your idea!! I'm no where near finished but I'm definitely progressing (I've done a whole Teddy leg) Crocheting with another yarn with the fluffy yarn has made it so much easier!

@LilithTheKitty - that's a very clever suggestion. I think I'll get some yarn and have a go at my teddy once I've finished the blanket I'm on. Although I've got some gorgeous T-shirt yarn here ready to make a basket .... but I want the teddy!
