Boys 'Hoodie' knitting pattern - can anyone recommend one?

I'm picking up my knitting needles after a 6 year enforced break (shoulder injury ) and ds has requested that I knit him something. I'm looking for a hoodie (cardie or jumper) in some sort of yarn which is nice but if possible, washable in a machine (is that asking too much? My days of careful handwashing knitwear are over).

Any recommendations on pattern or yarn will be gratefully received. Thanks.

There's a free pattern here that I have knitted before (though not in that hideous yarn, I hasten to add). It would work with any reasonably heavy aran, Rowan All Seasons Cotton would certainly match.

This is a possibility if you feel confident about adapting it a bit- I would be inclined to do a zip for a boy I think.

Wow - that's a quick reply. Thank you. Looks just the job (and very easy, might even get some girlie wool and do one for dd too).

Hmm..that second one is lovely - but yup, ds would be unlikely to wear a button-up..I'd have to put a zip in. Dd on the other hand loves cardigans. Getting very excited now.

Oh good The Knitty site is worth a browse in general actually, loads of lovely free patterns there. There are lots of great online yarn shops, just shout if you want some recommendations!

Yes please for online yarn shop recommendations. Thanks.
I'm being amused by rifling through my knitting bag and finding half-finished projects from 6 years ago - baby blankets etc.. for a baby who is now in year 2

I knitted this one for dd in the summer and it's really nice (though the cotton I used was a bit heavy and pulls the hood down at the back). It's a very easy pattern to do though!
