KNITTING HELP - This bloody jumper pattern makes no sense!

can any of you smart people help me understand what the heck I am meant to be doing here? Working on the left side of neck shaping, and for the life of me I cannot see how the shaping can happen with the instructions: decrease at end of all rs rows. That would make the decrease on the armhole end. I've taken this up and down, and out and in and...

here is the stupid pattern. Clues anyone?

I'm also attaching the NEXT bit which seems even dafter. Yellow arrows show my dilemma.

Lastly, here is my poor jumper, which so far looks short and fat, which maybe is what I need but we'll see :)

Thank you in advance. Truly.

Makes sense to me. You knit 12 and leave the others on a stitch holder. You purl across those 12. Then you knit and decrease at the end of the knit row - just the 12 you are working - then decrease again at the start of the purl row working back across to the armhole.

Ok, still reading. Then once you’ve decreased for the neckline you just work the stitches back and forth until your arm hole is big enough.

The (second yellow arrow) you do the same on the other side (with 10 stitches on a stick holder in the middle). That will then give you the ‘U’ shape for the neckline.

I'm mortified to tell you that I just figured it out. I read your instructions, knitted the wohle section up but still not right. Then I looked again.

The second yellow arrow is where I actually should be. I've already done the first bit. So I just tried to redo that bit several times over, with the same poor results. I'm not on the correct bit of the pattern and of course, it works perfectly.

May I just facepalm? Thank you!

Oh no! I have been there! I once knitted a whole sock inside out which really confused me when I got to the heel! I’m glad you got it sorted and enjoy wearing it when you finish!!
