DD 16 has taught herself to knit and crochet and would like a big project and move up from baskets, flannels, and snoods which she made brilliantly.
She now wants to make a vest top and cardi and blanket She sent me a link for this www.woolandthegang.com/en/products/sunny-tunic-knitting-kit?taxon_id=3 which is lovely. Its out of my price range. This is all new to me so what are the top kits for modern crochets and knitting kits that are more affordable. Or is this the price ( I wouldn't pay that much for a jumper in the stores) thanks

Wanting to follow as I am recently getting into knitting and crochet and would love to find some affordable kits etc. Is there a wool shop anywhere near you? It might be nice if your daughter started going there to see things in person and the people in the shops are usually so friendly and helpful! I've definitely bought wool online that has been a vastly different texture than I expected so it can be hard to tell!

Unfortunately, it is an art and crafts desert with no shops nearby so has to be online. The next town has a hobbycraft but a poor selection of nice things or modern things.

Lovecrafts always seems to have some sort of sale going so could be worth looking at them. Abakhan's could also be worth a try

Thanks for loving Abakhan's so much so I need to make a cup of tea and dedicate some time to this so much lovelyness

I agree wool and the gang is so expensive for what it is, I crochet and it's so much cheaper to buy it all separately, although I understand a kit makes a nicer gift!

Could you maybe buy her a pattern (on its own) and then get the type of yarn she'd like for it and make a 'kit' yourself or would that be a bit confusing?
Wool warehouse online is great and if you use the code RAV10 you get 10% off, maybe you could get her a voucher for that website along with a pattern(s) she'd like and she can really customise colours etc herself!

There is a new attic24 crochet blanket. Kit available from wool warehouse. www.attic24.typepad.com/ is well worth a visit, some lovely crochet projects.

Has she found Ravelry yet? It and the #knittersofinstagram hashtag are great for getting patterns.

Kits are such an expensive way to make things. It's so much cheaper to find a pattern you like and look at wool warehouse or knit picks for an equivalent yarn.

There's a tape yarn Rico do that's a budget friendly sub for wool and the gang according to YarnSub if she has her heart set on that design. The actual pattern is fairly simple and there's probably many similar free ones on Ravelry.

Wool and the gang are doing 25% off just now with the code GANG25

I think it's true that home made crochet things cost far more than bought knitwear. I know people who have tried selling stuff but people won't pay the cost of the yarn let alone the time.

There are free patterns on lovecrafts?
