I am a cross between a nun and a fairy,

Have got a nuns outfit and am going to shorten it and want to add a kind of net frill/ tutu to the bottom, can't be too short as of course I am on stage with lots of kids looking up my skirt!

How much tulle or whatever do you think I will need. I am a size 16-18.

net is the best buy, usually good choice of colours, but only comes in 1m wide. measure round your waist, (sorry) multiply by 4 and start from there??
we make ballet skirts with 8m but they come out quite long. you could leave it folded it in half - as it comes from the roll, and 50cm long would be quite respectable.
if you don't understand a word of what i mean poke me and i shall try to explain myself better

lol
if i had the time i'd tell you a tale about our recent dancing school show....
but the gist is, we needed 20 monkey suits, found them for a fiver in asda, bought a heap but needed a few more. various mums kept phoning to say "got 2/3/whatever more monkey suits" when we got to the show it turned out there were bears, lions, monkeys and all sorts in there twas hilarious. resorted to making tails from tights so they all appeared, erm, similar.
now what you need is a big orange feather boa. pin it to the monkey's bum and voila- you have a squirrel

while i think to add, the net is revolting stuff, and has to be gathered on to a waistband in order for it to look respectable at all. What we do, is cut the waistband at least twice as long as your waist, so that you gather the net on to single waistband fabric, so you have just to get it to fit on to that rather than piles of gathered up net which is hideous to sew; then fold the waistband fabric over to make it a proper waistband (i.e. hide all your 'gatherings', and put wide elastic through that which gathers it the rest to make it the size you need.
make i anyeee sense?

a feather boa, why didn't I think of that!

Conversation over the table at tea time for the past two weeks has solely been about what are we going to make the tail out of!
