Knitting for an amputee help needed

Dh has a friend that has had his leg amputated and he’s asked if I could knit him something to put over the stump as it’s cold.

I’m not bad at knitting so long as I have a pattern and it’s on straight needles. Can’t get on with knitting in the round and have never knitted socks. I’ve looked online and can’t find a pattern other than in the round or crochet.

Can anyone help. He would be so pleased if I could manage it 🙂

Could you get some circular needles? Anything to go on his stump would probably need to be seemless as otherwise it would rub.

Knit a bobble cap / beanie but knit it longer. So knit the base to be as long as his stup with the 'bobble' bit at the end of the stump.

If he can give you the stump circumference of the stump and match it to a pattern, maybe a child's hat.

Ah yes thankyou that’s a good idea.

Could you try to find a hat pattern and maybe adapt it?

Or if you fancy a challenge, I’ve taught myself to crochet really quickly from watching YouTube tutorials.
