i'm going to start quilting, so i bought a book. there's a pretty long list of equipment that they recommend, most of which i can understand the need for. there are a couple of things that i'm not sure about.

given that i'm a perfectionist, and i've been wanting to do this for ages, and i can get a couple of them as christmas presents do you think they're necessary? could i just start off without them? are any of them really worth having?

  • quilter's quarter & seamwheel
  • bias-maker and bias bars
  • 1/4 inch masking tape
  • display board
  • rotary cutter, ruler and mat

I quilt.
Loads.
Dunno what the first two listed are though.

I use a rotary cutter,mat and tape.
That's it!

thanks!

apparently a quilter's quarter and seamwheel are used to draw an accurate 6mm cutting line beyond the template outline.

bias maker and bias bars are for stained glass patchwork.

Blimey, sounds a bit too flash for me.

I just finished my third queen sized one and goraned 'Never again!' but am having withdrawal symptoms...

heh i'm like that with knitting. i've always been itching to try quilting though. i hope it's as addictive...

glad to know i don't need all that stuff. i've got storage problems between my beads and my yarn. just started collecting material now and am thinking of renting a warehouse somewhere for my stash!

I made a lovely double quilt and I used

  • piece of cardboard to make template
  • needle
  • scissors (can never spell that word
)
  • thread and material
