Business Set Up Advice Needed Pleease ....

Hi, I have been accepted on www.notonthehighstreet.com/

and wondered if anyone could give me any advice in terms of doing things properly. I'm concerned with the product safety issues because some of the things I make would be played or cuddled with by children.

I have found my local Business Link Centre but not been able to get to talk to someone yet about the reevant advice so thought I'd pick your brains in the meantime.

If you sell your handmade items via a website or face to face and they are aimed at children, could you please share some of your wisdom.

Then there's Product Liability Insurance....

Oh Lord, so much to think about but in the current climate of compensation claims you have to be so careful.

This is the sort of thing I make, here on my blog. It's all made to a very high standard and I triple stitch ribbons where possible and line the bigger dogs and horses before stuffing.

Would Trading Standards be helpful ?

Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

You could try posting on ukbusinessforums for advice - they have been great helping me with questions etc.. Good luck

Thank you both !

I've had some advice from the business forum which I will pursue after we get back from centre parcs.

I did a big fair on Saturday which was a bit of a disaster, well a big disaster. So, I want to get sorted on NOTHS pretty soon.

Hello,

My name is Emma an Intern at Inova Consultancy.

Inova has set up a business helpline specifically targeted at females who are thinking of setting up a business. Females are encouraged to call and talk about whatever they need help with when setting up a business. For example, problems they are facing, advice they need or it may just be that they are feeling isolated and need a chat for some reassurance, motivation etc.

The helpline is linked to a normal helpline but their is also a skype account for the helpline which is completely free to ring.

Skype: womenatbusiness_uk

Also it is not a problem if people would prefer to email or message us through skype or facebook and we will respond to them as quickly as possible. Also there is a facebook group young females can join to discuss their business issues: www.facebook.com/home.php#!/home.php?sk=group_153019351418996&ap=1
Many Thanks,

Also wanted to add not advice, because you are certainly a few steps ahead of me, but good luck- your products are really sweet and should sell well.

Will you be selling these on NOTHS?
And can you let us know when you are on/ seller's name? I will have an order for you Grin
