Hey ladies

I'm teaching myself crochet very slowly and finally figured out my first stitch the double stitch! And felt pretty proud as I did it a few times and started over a couple of times. I then did a new piece and did a few rows and left it for a bit and now when I look at it I haven't a clue which way I should be continuing the next row.

Would really appreciate if someone could help me!

Back along the top, the way your hook is laying
Chain 2 or 3 for the first stitch then go into the top of then next stitch
It get easier when you start to recognise the stitches and component parts of the stitches. Have a look at some pictures of where to place the stitch and make sure you are going into the right part
You can create different effects by going into the front or back loop or the loop behind

Thank you I do actually watch her. She's great and that's how I finally sort of figured out how to do it correctly its just when I try it later it's suddenly harder!

I notice that the edges of your sample are not straight. This often happens when counting stitches incorrectly and not knowing where to put the hook in the turning chain,

I have 50 years of crochet experience and this is the way I keep edges straight.

When you start the first row after the foundation row, it is always necessary to make a turning chain. I never count this as my first stitch.
For example a foundation row of 20 stitched - make the turning chain and then crochet 20 stitches. Do the next row the same. You will get a tiny loop at the end of each row which can be disguised in the edging or the seam.
