Yarn wash fiasco

I have just completed a jumper for my niece in rowan cotton yarn and because I've been knitting it for what seems like years and I have cats I washed it once completed in a wool wash setting as per instructions .

I used fairy non bio tablet and the bastard thing is ruined . It's cream and there are patches of white now where it looks like bleach has been splashed on the jumper . I'm beyond upset - it's the first time I've managed to make anything that looks nice enough to gift and the yarn cost £45!
Does anyone have any thought on potential remedial steps I could take ? I thought about dyeing it but I'm guessing the light patches will show up even more if I dye it ?

That's infuriating after so much work!

If you washed it according to the ball band instructions, I'd make a complaint as it sounds like a fault with their dyeing process.

The other thing would be to rinse it again just to make sure it's not residual washing power.

As a last ditch attempt at salvage, I'd dye it because you've got nothing to lose. Dylon machine dye balls are £5 in Wilkos and there's a good range of colours.

Thanks be brave - Good idea washing again . I hadn't thought if that . I'll do it this time without any powder and see what happens .

How was it after you washed it OP? Annoyed and upset on your behalf. I’d be gutted.

No change sadly after washing :((
I have been in contact with rowan and they have asked me to send it to them to analyse . I am not sure what to do really as I'm not going to knit another one even if they did replace the yarn . i wonder whether it may be better to give it to my niece as is with the defect and it can be used for a play jumper so at least my efforts ( im not an experienced knitter so it was a big deal for me to a garment that actually looked good !) are not wasted altogether iyswim
