Has anyone done cyanotype?

I fancy giving this a whirl and I will probably do it with my children if I do it. Can anyone tell me how tricky it is. I'm looking at the paper that's ready made and the chemicals in bottles as I fancy doing some fabric. Any tips or recommendations? I'd be very grateful.

I did this last year with the chemicals and fabric. The trickiest bit for me was drying the fabric in the dark (used my garage) before using it.

Had a bit of success by using the glass front of a picture frame to trap the leaves and keep them still. The longer you leave it in the sun, the darker it is.

It’s great fun.

Oh that's rather lovely. Thanks. Is any old set ok?

I’ve been doing it today! It works well with pressed flowers and I use a Perspex sheet on top to make sure things stay still.
I just used the ready made paper that you wash off after 30 minutes exposure.

Very nice!

I am now vicariously planning a huge one to put in our porch (having never done it before). Any ideas how much area the bottle sets might cover?

I think the bottles would do quite a large area - I did three tea towels, two prints and a couple of cards and have a fair bit left.

Fab. Thanks very much

If doing one on clothing, don’t wash in bio washing powder as the blue goes yellow - still nice but not so much if you want the blue!

Thanks for the tip.Smile
