How to get this effect on jeans?!

I tried these jeans on today and love this effect, but didn't fancy paying £40 for them.
I have had a google but can't find out how to recreate this - would anyone be able to suggest how I can do this myself?
Thanks in advance!!

You'd need to do two cuts and blue out the blue threads (up/down leg), them machine across the white (running across leg) . However not sure if you could machine it unless freehand? My guess is the effect is done before the jeans are sewn up.

*pull out

It looks like there is a layer of fabric underneath the white threads to stabilise it.

I agree though - 2 vertical cuts so you can pull out the blue threads that run across the fabric and then machine stitch across the white with the stabilising layer underneath. I also think it would be tricky to do on already made jeans unless they are loose.

I think it is doable, but not necessarily easily.
