Is this a ridiculous thing to make for a 1 year old???

I want to give her something that will last and something where she can use her imagination....

I have bought a small metal suitacase and a very soft 'bunny' with long floppy ears. I have then put together some bedclothes in the form of a hot pink furry sheet and a purple blanket with hot pink furry spots on. Essentially bunny is in bed inside the suitcase!

I thought it would work on the imagination stakes and possibly come in to it's own in 6 months time or am I way off the mark?? Also - the tin will be useful for years to come for various things I thought.

I think this sounds lovely. I might make one for my 14 month old (hope you don't mind ). She might like to peek in at the bunny to start with and then get him out and put him back. Then start tucking him in as she gets older. Totally charming. Lucky little one.

I think this would be a fab present - just check how easy it is to trap fingers in the metal case?

I agree with the imagination bit & children love putting things in & taking them out

oh that's great thank you! Good point about trapped fingers and she might do but it's not sprung or heavy - just a lightweight one from paperchase. She would need to be kept an eye on though.

Do you think this would be a 'big' or 'small' present as I'm thinking about making one for a friend's daughter too (same age) but don't want to embarass her by giving something too substantial. Money wise it costs me about £8 to make and an evening sewing spots and that's it..... but I know that's not the point!!

IMO it's quite a 'big' present, in terms of thought, effort, etc etc, but small (ish) cost wise. If my friend did something like that for my DCs I'd be over the moon, and I don't think you should be embarressed about doing it. It is so lovely to get something that has some thought involved, and is unique. The best present my DS got for his birthday was a big fleece taggy blanket made by my friend, he sleeps with it every night, takes it in the car with him and it is gorgeous, all the more so for being made by my friend.
BTW, I saw some tin suitcases in Asda the other day, and they were 2.50 each. They were boy-ish ones in my Asda, I presume they do similar for a girl tho. I got one for my DS and also a couple of extras to do something similar for friends' boys (but with shop bought bits and bobs, not as lovely sounding as your bunny in a bed)

Well I don't know - I'm 37 and I thought I was but then found that I was curiously enchanted with it and kept tucking and untucking bunny!
