Has anyone bought a potters wheel?

I’m thinking of buying a wheel.
I’m not great at pottery but I absolutely love it. A couple years ago before baby and then lockdowns I did a couple short classes.
I’m just wondering if you’ve bought a wheel, have you used it often? Has it helped to just get going with it or did you find classes/courses more practical?

Isn’t the kiln the expensive bit?

EbayNewbie · 31/03/2021 14:01

The wheels I seen was 3 grand 😯

The wheels I’ve seen vary in price, some pre owned wheels are reasonably price. The kilns are expensive, but where would you put a kiln to be honest.

I’m still pondering on the wheel 🤔

I'm reviving this thread as I have the same question, did a search and this was the only thread to come up, but I see it didn't get many answers.

Did you end up getting one @Coffeeandbooks13?

Pwincessb · 22/01/2025 12:24

We have one - used to use it a lot and also had a kiln so did everything "in house". We haven't used it for a while despite buying a second one last year so DH and I could both pot together. Intending to pick it up again when the weather gets a bit warmer

That’s great @Pwincessb good luck with it all!

@TheDevilsTelephone I didn’t buy in the end I did quite a few short courses though so I was happy. Maybe in the future I’ll give it more thought again.

Have you seen microwave kilns? You can only make small pieces but they aren't ridiculously expensive.
