Which cord for threading stone beads please?

I ordered some lovely beads from India and I'd like to thread them on to long strings to wear. They are gemstone chips and tigers eye beads of 8mm diameter so I need something thin and strong.
Can anyone advise me please? I guess I'll need to buy a special needle too?
Really looking forward to actually crafting something after so long, but I've only used seed beads and nylon filament before which I'm sure won't be strong enough.

The strongest thread is the nylon coated wire. Gemstone chips can be quite heavy and tend to have decent sized holes, so you should use a medium to heavy wire. There are quite a few different brands, ie Beadalon or SoftFlex (you can probably find cheaper versions on eBay). You can knot this type of wire, but it's better if you finish it with a clasp (look on YouTube for basic necklace stringing tutorials). You don't need a needle.
