Crochet starter kit.

I’ve had my eye on a crochet starter kit for a while, waiting for the notification that it’s come back into stock. It’s been weeks now so guessing it will be more but keen to get started.

And recommendations on starter kits? Or can anyone tell me exactly what I need to buy to get started. (The yarn options bewilder me already!)

Would like to make blankets if that changes any answers!?

Look at attic24 blankets, google will find her. Lovely blankets, full instructions on her site, and kits available from wool warehouse. Just need a hook and you are away. I use a clover 4mm hook, also available from wool warehouse.

Honestly if a beginner I would get a 4mm crochet hook and a ball or two of double knitting wool (I like stylecraft special but for your first attempts any will do. You do t need anything other than yarn and a hook to start with probably scissors ans a large needle as well to sew in ends.

Attic24 is lovely for inspiration.
I’d start with squares rather than stripes. Easier to keep track of where you are, I think - stripes when you are a beginner tend to get mysteriously longer and shorter! Perhaps a giant granny square - that’s how I learned to crochet. From there it is all quite simple and such fun.

I ended up down a hole trying to figure out exactly what I needed!
I have an old beginners book but think I’ll use YouTube, much more a visual learner!

I got on really well with Bellacoco on YouTube.
I've gone for chunky wool (Women's Institute brand from Hobbycraft) and a 6mm hook - everything being that much bigger made learning that bit easier
I've made a tea cosy, a mug cosy, and loads of squares that I'm stitching together into an ever-growing blanket. It's a lovely relaxing thing to do in the evenings after a day wfh in front of a screen...
