I am putting together some craft bits and pieces for a friend for a pressie.

She knits and enjoy going off piste by adding fabric pockets, ribbon edging, beads etc.

So far I have:
Felt squares in diff colours
Velvet ribbon
Large wooden buttons made from coconut.

Help!
There isn't a lot of space left in the nice tin I bought but definitely room for a fair few small items!

How about some nice big kilt pins so she can make little brooches threaded with beads to adorn the hand knitted garments? John Lewis haberdashery has a lovely selection of bits and bobs.

p.s. it's childrens clothes that she makes rather than grown ups!

Funky zips, flowery shaped buttons, sequinned patches,Cath Kidston do a lovely tin for pins, its only about 4.50 but is very retro and pretty. Also in John Lewis (my fave shop!)

I don't have anything new to add but I just wanted to say ... What a great present!!

puppydavies · 07/11/2007 22:42

some pretty stitch markers? a needle case (for sewing needles)? if you can colour co-ordinate the trimmings even better.

Niecie · 07/11/2007 22:43

What about something like these

I think they are gorgeous.

I really thoughtful present by the way - I wish somebody would do something like that for me!

lucykate · 07/11/2007 23:08

a thimble?, it wasn't until recently i realised i didn't have one myself, normally use the edge of the table to lever the needle through a thick bit

What a fab pressie - a crafter's dream gift Was gonna say a selection of buttons (I got a lovely job-lot of mixed ones off ebay for practically nothing) or pretty little buckles but if you're short of space in your tin then fancy stitch markers, thimble, row counter . . .

Since starting to crochet corsages I've discovered a hitherto unsuspected obsession with buttons

You're such a thoughtful friend to come up with something like this.

rantinghousewife · 08/11/2007 11:16

Anyone else secretly hoping that this is their friend?

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 08/11/2007 18:41

Oooh thanks everyone - brilliant ideas. What are stitch markers by the way . Yes I must get a needle tin/case and that's a great tube of beads - I will rummage more on eBay.

You won't believe it but my Mum randomly gave me something similar one christmas - full of sewing stuff - hemming tape, needles, scissors, different coloured threads....loads of stuff all in an old second hand tiny suitcase thing. It's been the envy of everyone since and I suddenly thought that I should do something for someone. So....the 'Applique Case' has been born

I went out today and got lovely buttons, embroidery thread, ultra thin ribbons, wavy edging ribbon stuff and some other bits. I've ordered some coconut buttons from eBay and got some tiny orange beads....
I was going to put in some squares of pretty material I have too.

Please keep up with the ideas!!

Oooo, yes some stitch markers. I have been meaning to make some for ages but don't actually use then myself when I knit! There are some really pretty ones around!

Sounds a cradfter's dream pressie!!

Gingermonkey · 08/11/2007 19:34

can I have one for christmas too, please?
LK - you know, I have only just realised I don't have a thimble either...and use the table edge technique also
