Yarn Advice

I've just started getting into crochet again after giving up a while back. I've got a pattern for a sweater which recommends worsted weight yarn with a 6mm hook, but they yarn I want to use is DK and the band recommends 4mm hook. Not very clever I know, when I first started I got carried away buying loads of DK yarns which I want to use up.

Would the yarn work with the pattern and how should I best adapt to make it work?

If you use the dk and the 4mm hook, your sweater will turn out too small. If you use the dk and the 6mm hook, it may be the right size but it will be looser and floppier than intended.

Try popping over and joining us on the Knit Crochet and Natter threads - someone on there is bound to be able to help!

Presumably the DK and 4mm hook will make the sweater smaller? Does the pattern give instructions on how to alter the size of the sweater? Is it the same as knitting and you should do a sample swatch first to gauge your tension/size of swatch against the size recommended for the pattern?

Thanks @lazylinguist and @Plumpcious

I'll try a sample swatch and pop over to the knit and Crochet thread too.
