I know all good mummies should know this, but I visited a nursery once and they said they made their own playdough.

How do I do it??

TIA

Something to do with Waitrose Tartare sauce I believe.....

I don't know the quantities, you'll have to look online, but the ingreds are:
Flour
Salt
Veg Oil
Cream of Tartar
Food colouring

You bung it all in a pan, heat it up and give your arms a good work out stirring it. A bit of vanilla or peppermint oil is nice too.

Cream of Tartare??????

Why on earth do you need that??!!

i have this one, although have not tried it out yet

3 cups flour
1 cup cold water
1 cup salt
2 tsp veg oil
2 tbsp cornflour
bit of food colouring of your choice

thoroughly mix all the ingredients together in a bowl .. simply knead until smooth
when not in use store in an airtight container to prevent it drying out

I will put it on my shopping list.

This makes a good quantity:

1 Mug Plain Flour
1 Mug of Water
1/2 Mug of Salt
2tsp Cream of Tartar (it's a powder, you find it near the baking powder in a store!)
1 tablespoon of oil
Food Colouring (Add to water. choose your own amount depending on how strong a colour you require)

1 Mix all ingredients together
2 Heat, stirring constantly until smooth ball forms
3 Remove from heat
4 Knead for several minutes
5 Allow to cool. Keep in an airtight container

Keeps best in a plastic freezer bag IME.

And, if you're feeling poncey (and I always am ) you can add stuff like cheap vanilla essence to make it scented.

For chocolate playdough, ad 1tablespoon of cocoa. Sadly it's inedible but smells divine.

Thank you Dragon for explaining that Cream of Tartare is a powder -I'd have lobbed a blob of Tartare Sauce in and hoped for the best!!!

Thank you all for those recipes - I feel a messy play session coming on....!!
