Hey, have narrowed down choices to these 2:

Brother Innov-is 15 sewing machine
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A27XD0K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_49PARJ046VBXCGQ9VH46?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Or

Brother FS40 sewing machine
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DAY5PSU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_ENP3KJW3T5WB3V21NGT2?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Has anyone got experience of these 2? Or could decipher all the features and what is more important?

I'm not a total beginner to sewing, but not very experienced either. The machine will be used for home use, clothing repairs etc. Thsnks if you can help me out!!

The Innovis 15 has a needle threader which the other doesn't. I would hate to have a sewing machine without one. The second machine has more stitches but you would likely never use them 99% of the time. I have bought my sewing machines from specialist sewing machine shops online and I would buy there rather than Argos or Amazon. You can phone them directly and ask them the difference between the two machines but I note that the second machine doesn't tend to be sold by them, just by the catalogue shops. This would incline me to go for the first one.
A shop I recommend is sewing machines direct (sewingmachines.co.uk) I have bought a couple from here. Also GUR sewing machines or Frank Nutt. Are reputable.

Thanks for your reply, I've never had a self threading needle so I'm not sure I'd miss it iyswim, but if they are that great I'll lean towards that one!

I second Sewing Machines Direct, I bought one from them a couple of years ago and found them to be very good. I think I bought my other one from GUR and they were also very good but that was a good few years ago now.

SMD had an online chat thingy you could ask questions - that was very handy and they were very helpful. I also got a free set of scissors and box of threads Smile
