Sewing up a patchwork knitted blanket, tips please?

I just couldn't resist buying a packet of multicoloured little balls of wool on t'net .....

After pondering for a while what I could do with it (I am not a very experienced knitter, I mainly do embroidery) I decided on a patchwork blanket. The knitting side of things is fine and my squares are neat but I wondered if there might be any tips for the best way of approaching sewing up. What colour wool would you use for example? Everyone seems so helpful on Arts and Crafts, it's one of the best threads for support Smile

If you can crochet I would crochet them together so you've got a border to pull them all together. Otherwise you will need the same colours as the squares and over stitch them?

If you use mattress stitch the sewing up thread colour doesn't show. I find it frustrating to get it perfect on a blanket though so if you can crochet I would do what pp suggests
