What to use as a sewing table?

I am going to set up a little sewing corner in the spare bedroom and need a table to sew on.
I am undecided on what to buy and looking for recommendations. Do I need a table with a drop down platform like the Comet Sewing Table or should I get a desk with drawers. Had my eye on the ikea linmen but it is out of stock.

I used an IKEA Micke desk with drawer and shelves on the side. I fed the wires up through the back of the drawer so they were out of the way. I found it plenty big enough for my projects and a nice height. I stored all my bits in the drawer and in boxes on the shelves.

I have a small folding table at the moment as the only place for it in my sewing nook is in front of the airing cupboard door. I find it's OK (just), as long as I don't go too fast - when it tends to get a little shaky! I always stand the machine on a non-slip mat.
All my sewing bits are either in tins on a shelf, which is also where the sewing machine lives, or in one of those compartmentalized door hangers meant for shoes, but I am wondering whether to hang the scissors on hooks, partly for ease of use and partly for decoration Smile.

Ikea Linmon - I like it cos it’s a good height and I can easily dismantle it if I want to clear my sewing stuff away. Plus it’s cheap so I’m not bothered if I damage it accidentally.

Yeah sorry I clearly didn’t read your whole post 😬 But if the Linmon comes back into stock I highly recommend it 😄 I got a medium sized one which means room for my cutting mat etc as well as my sewing machine.

I always fancied an ikea kitchen island. It would be at the right height for cutting and very sturdy. They use them in my local sewing shop.

Something like this -

@callmecordelia I do like the kitchen island. I might get that at a later date if enough space.

Everyone is recommending ikea so I will keep an eye on the website as most things are currently unavailable.
In the interim I have ordered a sturdy double folding camping/picnic table. Not ideal but will do in the meantime.

Isn't a kitchen island going to be the wrong height for sewing at? Or is it just for cutting out?
