Roman blinds - total novice

Am I mad to attempt to sew some roman thermal blinds myself? I haven't sewed since school. We've got funny dimensions on our windows and the ready made ones are so expensive.

Any tips? Even if that includes...don't bother. Thank you!

I'm going to have a go at these myself. The easiest ones I have sen use magnet to keep the pleated sections up. Worth having a go I think. Does anyone recommend a nice easy Youtube tutorial?

Joining in as I also want to make a Roman blind.

Lovely. The more the merrier. Feel like I might need a support thread if I ever get this off the ground!

I've made them for the whole house. They are not hard to make, but a bit faffy. My advice is to buy the best quality cassette you can afford. These are our living room ones.. they aren't pulled up at the folds evenly I've just noticed!

Do you already know how to sew @Peachypips78 ?

Yes vaguely. But I made so many blinds and curtains when we moved here that I became a lot better really quickly! If you buy the cassette it has instructions on how to do it in the packet. Costs about £25-30 depending on size of window but well worth it.

It depends if you're a neat tidy person or not. They're not hard so much as if you don't measure properly or something isn't straight it'll look a bugger. I'm pretty good at sewing but swore off window treatments after my first pair of curtains Grin
