Pens for calligraphy?

I’m thinking of doing an online course but need to order the materials. I’ve noticed some of the pens have the nib offset to the side and I thought that would feel rather awkward to write with and was wondering if anyone could advise. Many thanks

Does the course give any suggestions? What sort of calligraphy is it teaching? I used to use these sort of nibs scribblers.co.uk/product-category/dip-pens-and-nibs/william-mitchell-nibs/william-mitchell-round-hand-pens/ (the "left oblique" ones are for left handers)

These are dip pens and you need a holder for them. And a bottle of ink :)

It's described as modern calligraphy and I've just had another look and their pens seem more like a normal pen ie straight up and down.

I did a modern calligraphy class in October and have been totally hooked over the last two months. Thank god for online shopping as it's enabled me to buy various pens/nibs /brushes and experiment. You can use an oblique nib holder or a straight one as you prefer. I'm a lefty so tried with both and I actually prefer the straight one and I haven't had any issues with smudging as my hand position is below what I've lettered not on top of it like it is with cursive.

I'm actually starting to prefer brush pen markers to dip pen work. I found it much harder to get to grips with but it's a more fluid, casual style which I prefer. When I'm using a dip pen and ink my calligraphy looks more formal.

I seem to have reached a plateau now and I'm worried about developing bad habits so I've signed up for a short Zoom course in January.
