Painting MDF crafts

I have been trying to find something to keep me occupied this winter as all my usual hobbies are pretty much non existent at the moment and I need to keep busy.

So I have ordered some MDF shapes to paint for nieces and nephews for Easter.
I have been trying to find information about the best paint to use and acrylic seems to be the go to choice. But I really want to use pastel colours so acrylic wouldn't work as it would be too bright.

Can anyone recommend what other paint I can use? I was wondering if the little tester paint pots you can get for decorating your house would be suitable?

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks

Buy white acrylic paint and mix it with a small amount of brighter colour to get pastels Confused

You can also buy pastel acrylics. Just look on Amazon.

Can't you just buy white acrylic paint and mix :S

I think you'll need to seal the shapes before you paint them as MDF is very porous. 2 parts PVA glue to 1 part water I think.

I did think of mixing white for lighter shades but if I don’t make enough I wouldn’t get the same shade if I needed to mix up more.

I haven’t come across pastel acrylics so I will have another look.

I have the glue and sandpaper for sealing the products but thanks for suggesting
