What overlocker do you have?

I am getting really fed up with my Brother. It won't sew over anything thick which includes the seam bits of cuffs/ribbing. The upper blade moves all the time so I have to keep adjusting it. And the chain forks have just broken again after an expensive trip to the repair man.
What do you have?

I have an elna 664, I think it’s quite basic but has done me well so far; don’t know how I managed without it Smile
I went to a beginners overlocker class about 2years ago and this was the one we used and there was a discount if you bought one.

Is it good on thick stuff?

I have this one - a Janome. I find it fabulous. Not top of the range but no problem going over thicker portions of fabric

I’ve recently been making polar fleece head bands so dealing with double thickness of fleece and it seems to manage fine and no problem cutting.

I have the babylock enlighten. Eyewateringly expensive but I love it. Had it 6years and it's like new, hoping to never replace it (but would like a secondhand 5thread overlocker for coverstitch)

I've got two Janome overlockers and I swear by them. I use an airthread every day and got it in May. I have the 9200D before that but after five years of being used every day it was getting tired. Still works though and I keep it as a spare. I had a Necchi for 18 months. Impossible to get parts for it, even blades. The motor went and my sewing machine man couldn't find a new one for it. I sold it for spares in the end. Shame as it was cracking when it worked.

I'm leaning towards the next Janome up. Hoping for a Black Friday bargain!

I bought the Lidl overlocker when it was around a couple of months ago - it's a Singer. I LOVE it - it has revolutionised my sewing. Oddly, it was totally incompatible with the grey thread on offer at Lidl at the same time - just would NOT sew at all, regardless of many hours of tweaking all the tensions and settings. But it's perfectly happy with the navy and white threads from the same brand bought at the same time.

I guess they only have them once a year, but it's worth keeping an eye out for a great entry level machine.

I have a Brother M343D, it's basic and I had problems with it at first; faulty tension, needles breaking, constantly needing rethreading.
I found it helps to use good quality thread (Gutermann) and I buy large cones and rewind onto smaller spools. Also helps to use the same size needle in both needle holders.
I oil it regularly, and despite 2 bits falling off (no idea how to put them back) it's behaving a bit better now. But next time I would go for a more expensive one if I could afford it.

I think that Brother is similar to the one I have and therefore may have similar problems! I have upgraded my thread already.
Looking for next level rather than entry level, but have come across some really fancy ones... maybe some day.

I have a Pfaff 4.0 Coverstitch and I’m not getting on with it at all. It needs to be serviced as I think the timing is out. It’s also an absolute pain to thread.

I lust after a Juki Air Threader but really cannot afford it right now.

ChessIsASport · 23/11/2020 07:33

I have the babylock Enspire. I love it! It has air threading which makes it so easy to set up. It feels so sturdy and well made.
