Pattern for an easy knit man's hat with straight needles.

I can knit but haven't for years, never done cables or used a round needle but would like to do a hat for my son. He has quite a large head and lots of hair so needs to be large or something easy to scale up.

Seem to be lots for crochet but not done any crochet since I was a child.

Anyone know anything? He has one that he wears that I would say is icelandic style with ear flaps and patterned with a pompom (shop bought, not hand made), so anything from beanie upwards as long as it's fairly simple. I have knitted lacy baby clothes etc, but not for a long time.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

This one from Ravelry. It says it's good for beginners - I know you said you can knit but it might me a good starting point.

I'll see if I can find some more to give you some options.

This one looks like it's slouchy style but knitted sideways.

I'll see if I can find an easy knit trapper style pattern

Ah that's great thanks @TheWoollybacksWife. The ones I found needed to knit with a round needle, It looks nice in the bottom picture with the more textured wool rather than in the more smooth ones with the man wearing. It would be black or grey anyway as that's all DS wears...

2nd one is maybe too slouchy but his girlfriend might like that - i might get more industrious!
