Crochet beanie too pointy!

Beginner crochet-er here! I've found a beanie pattern I'm happy with. After the band I dc around it in rows, then work in a spiral to the top. All perfect until I reduce the stitches at the spiral stage. The adult size says to do 7 dc then stitch two dc together then 7 more. Rather than a rounded top it looks too pointy. How should I adjust for a more rounded/flat top? Instead of pointy? Dc fewer stitches then dc two together? Or dc more stitches before dc two together? Thank you!

To make it less pointy you need to decrease quicker over fewer rows. You can do this either by adding more decreases into the rounds or if the pattern has decreases on alternate rounds just skip the odd plain round and do the decrease round instead.
