Crochet blanket pattern - can't find what I want!

I'm hoping someone might know if what I'm looking for exists and can give me some pointers.
I'm planning to crochet my dsis a blanket for a significant birthday. I was planning to do a shell type stitch (in rows because I hate squares) but she's just showed me a picture of her newly decorated room and I think something almost lace looking would go better than a more solid stitch but I can't find a pattern anywhere!
Anyone have an idea of a stitch or pattern that would look sort of like lace or at least more delicate than a solid type pattern? I'm hoping to use several colours but I'm open to ideas.

There's feather and fan stitch but I will go and have a look for some more lacy ones I think I have favourited on Ravelry.

Alpaca Your Wrap could be made as a blanket, and it's a free pattern.

Thank you tribpot! I really like the snowflake one. Feather and fan looks similar to Attic 24 woodland ripple? It's one of my favourites but I made her a baby blanket with it so I think something different for her.
