Crochet road block! (Instruction confusion)

Could anyone help me to work out what this means for row 1?

I'm making a onesie for our baby and have got so far and only have the sleeves to go, but I'm stumped at this.
"Make a sc along the sidebar (???) of the sc"?
Confused
I tried YouTube but it only tells you how to make a sidebar, not sc along one.

I'm sure it's very simple but my mind can't work it out!

Any help gratefully received! 😁

Single crochet?

Fair play to you, I can’t follow crochet instructions AT ALL. It’s a massive roadblock in trying to learn, not very beginner frequently with all the jargon, and that’s before you even get to the British/American differences in terminology Angry

If this image works it might show what I’m trying to describe below.

When you have done a single crochet stitch instead of going on to the next stitch in the row make a stitch at right angles by going into the sidebar.

Or perhaps this might help.

Apologies if obvious, or obviously wrong.

Haha, I was like that @TerribleCustomerCervix but can overcome most issues using YouTube but this has thrown me. SC is single crochet (our double) but I don't know what she's on about with "along the side bar" there is no sidebar, whatever that is 😂

@Neome how you describe it is exactly how I read the instruction.

Frazzlerock · 16/08/2020 18:18

Thanks @Neome I think I'm still confused as I've not been asked to make a sidebar yet so not sure how to SC along one if there isn't one there to SC along? If that makes sense.
I'm tempted to just keep SCing and make a sleeve as usual but worried this "along sidebar" is a vital part 😬

I’m absolutely guessing here but I’m imagining sidebar is another word for post, that is the post of the stitch.

Frazzlerock · 16/08/2020 18:32

I think you're right there @Neome I think I was overthinking it. I'm going ahead and SCing as usual to make a normal sleeve. Hopefully will turn out fine!
Thank you for your help
